The Bubushi
A classical ancient Chinese martial arts text that forms the basis for the principles of Goju Ryu.

Dojo
A training hall or club.

Gekisai Dai (ichi)
A fundamental kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Gekisai Sho (ni)
A fundamental kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Go
Meaning "Hard" or "Strong"

Goju Ryu
The style of karate developed by Miyagi Chogun. Literal translation is "the Hard and Soft Fist School/Association".

Hsing I
The literal translation is "Form of Mind". It is a practical style of martial arts based on the five elements philosophy of Chinese cosmology.

Ibuki
A hard and long style of breathing used in Sanchin kata.

Ju
Means "Soft" or "Yielding" Kuatsu Literally means "to bring one back from the dead". It is a style of healing that often involves the stimulation of specific acupuncture points.

Kurarunfa
An advanced kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Moxabustion
A healing art involving the application of heat to specific acupuncture points of the body.

Pa Tuan Chin
A series of breathing exercises developed by General Yueh Fei in the 12th Century.

Pakua
A style comprised of various circling postures, involving simultaneous block and attacks.

Qi Gong
The energy which flows through the body of all living things. Also known as "Chi".

Saifa
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Saisan
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Sanchin
A fundamental kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum developed from the kata Happoren.

Sanseru
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Seinchin
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Seipai
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Shisochin
An advanced kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Suparumpei
An advanced kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.

Tai Chi Chuan
Literally translated means "Grand Ultimate Fist". It is a style of Chinese Kung Fu which uses the concept of Chi as the basis of its techniques.

Tensho
An intermediate kata of the Goju Ryu karate curriculum.
